As the video says lemon contains the buzz word in cosmetics alpha hydroxide acid. It always amazes me that people take care in not eating processed food but they use cosmetics full of additives and chemicals.
I try very hard to use only organic cosmetics but it is not easy. I am, at the moment, researching into home made cosmetics but that is something for the future.
This is a cosmetic type of uses of lemon, so I will give you some easy recipes to start
Lemon Scrubs
1) Easy scrub
- ½ lemon
- ¼ cup of sugar
Apply to face in circular motions, gently allowing the sugar to scrub you face. Leave for a few minutes. Take it off with a warm cloth.
It can be used once a week.
2) Body Scrub
- 1 fresh lemon
- 5 tbsp of sea salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Mix the oil with the salt to avoid the lemon dissolving the rock salt. Next cut the lemon in half and squeeze over the salt and oil. Continue mixing and crush the salt if necessary.
Lemon Masks
1) Lemon and Milk Alpha Hydroxide Mask
In the small bows combined the milk and lemon juice, Dunk the wedge. This should be left at ROOM TEMPERATURE for 3 to 4 hours. Do not stop the curdling. Then apply to your face. ] Leave for 15 minutes. Then rinse.
2) Avocado, Lemon and Egg white mask
- 1 tbsp of lemon juice
- pulp of ½ an avocado
- 1 egg white
Mix the ingredients and apply on clean face for 15-20 minutes. Remove with warm water and a cloth. Cleanse again with mild cleaner and then continue with your routine.
Lemon Skin Toners
1) Just Lemon
Use some lemon juice on a cotton swab and apply on your face as toner.
2) Quick Toner

I am a new convert to natural eating and people sometimes forgets that what they use on their skin gets absorbed into the body. I have many friends that only will eat organic but they put products full of chemicals on their skin. I am trying, slowly to change my holistic outlook into food and cosmetics.

I’m also all about natural remedies and clean ingredients, but lemon has been debunked as a skin-helpful thing: http://www.brightestbulbinthebox.com/2013/04/five-home-remedies-to-get-rid-of-acne.html
Sonya Mann says
As that blogger outlines, it can even be actively harmful.

I suppose it is like any natural eating/cosmetics there are different opinions. I actually believe it is helpful. I think we have to be open minded and try.
I know people whom lemon helped very much with acne. Repeating again, it is like any health issue there are at least, two opposing views to each concept

Lemon is very versatile. It also has antiseptic properties and whenever I’m out eating and I have no hand sanitizer left I use a fresh lemon to wash my hands and get rid of all the germs.

I love tips like these! I can’t NOT use cosmetics. I just can’t live without make up but luckily, I don’t always use make up because I’m a work-at-home gal 🙂 But I would like to try one of these some time! Thanks Liliana.

Sounds like a good idea, rub lemons all over myself but have to remember to not get any in the eyes or you will suffer.

You did a lot of work putting all these together! I love making my own chemical free beauty products. I’ll have to give some of your “recipes” a try!

You gave some great recipes for using the lemon. I washed, then froze some lemons. After grating the entire lemon, I can use the lemon added to water. I loved this so much that I added a post about it to my blog.

I have a friend who is planning to write Kindles for natural cosmetics and she gave me some of the recipes. Her blog is not up and running yet or I would put a link here

Lemons are related to weight loss by naturalists, my homeopath doctor advised me to use half a lemon every day and stay skinny. His advise worked so much that most in my family is using lemons in routine food.

I met a doctor here in Spain, who was overweight and lost about 30 Kg about 70 lbs in six months in 2012 and he swears he did it by eating healthily of course, but by having the juice of 6 lemons in the morning. Again is a question of testing.

I’ve always heard that lemon essential oil is photosensitive so you should avoid it if you’re going out in the sun. Do you know if the same goes for these recipes since its more the juice than the oils?
Liliana says
I think there was a lot of concern with people using lemon essential oils because people used too much. You really need to know what you are doing regarding essential oils. I am testing different things at the moment with essential oils but the fresh fruit should not be a problem. Always test natural products.

Never Knew that lemon can brighten my skin. Do you think there would be any side effect?
Liliana says
I don’t think they would be some side effects but if you look at some comments below some people disagree. My belief is that anything natural would work but you have to try.
