Cure Ailments with Fasting
Fasting is known as an old fashion form of medicine. Fasting helps with the following: detoxification, digestive system, inflammatory diseases, fat breakdown, high blood pressure, weight loss, immunity and addictions.
Introduction
Many cultures and religions use fasting as a voluntary abstinence. The true benefits of fasting for health are not widely known. It was discovered a long time ago that it can also benefit a person’s health.
Detoxification basically means blood cleansing through eliminating impurities from the blood in the liver, through kidneys, lungs, intestines, lymph glands and the skin.
Types of fasting
You need to try to reduce toxins in your body. Try to cut down on cigarettes, alcohol, coffee and processed foods as these are toxins that stop your healing development
Most of us think about what we eat but also we have to take into account cleaning material and cosmetics. Our largest organ is the skin and we should be careful of what we put on it.
• Water fasting
Water fasting is when only water is consumed but really for periods longer than 3 days should only be done under medical supervision.
• Juice fasting
The best juice fasting is when the juices are from fruits and vegetables and are homemade.
Duration of juice fasting is usually 1-3 days. Medical administration and careful assessment is required for longer periods of fasting.
Gentler ways of detoxifying
You can also look into:
-
Change in the diet
Whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables instead of packaged and fast foods.
-
Saunas
Saunas are usually combined with diet, exercise and nutritional supplements. You really need to have advice about saunas and especially temperature.
-
Yoga
Through breathing exercise, the bloodstream thoroughly oxygenates thus giving energy and improves the body’s physical process.
-
Skin brushing
Again is a combination of diet, exercise and nutritional supplements together with dry brushing your skin every morning before your shower.
Benefits of fasting for health
1. Detoxification.
Some people find it beneficial to go for a 1 to 3 day water or juice fast before or just as the seasons start. It detoxifies the liver and other organs.
Imagine yourself having clearer skin, sharper mind, energy revitalized, stronger immune system and feeling healthy inside and out – – these are the things that you can enjoy by undergoing a detoxification program.
2. Colds and coughs
Normally people resort to over the counter medicine but fasting can be very effective. Fasting for 3 days. Do not eat anything but take plenty of water whilst resting in bed, until your body temperature returns to normal.
3. Digestive system
Many believe that fasting when sick is very beneficial. The person who is sick, normally cannot digest food properly, therefore a water or juice (liquid) fast might be beneficial. The digestive system needs to rest sometimes. Just do not forget to eat lightly after the three-day fast; don’t splurge on food immediately
4. General wellbeing
When your mind is drained, your body aches and your energy levels are close to zero, it’s time for a body detox.
Rohsäfte-Kur
Leslie Kenton in her New Joy of Beauty book tells us about the Rohsafte-Kur which is a raw juice fast and she reports that specialists believe that it is even superior to water fasting.
The day before
Eat lightly. Have fruit juice for breakfast and salad for lunch and dinner, perhaps with a little cottage cheese or some yogurt. This prepares your body for the juice fast. You can also take a mild laxative the night before if you want.
First thing
A tisane: a cup of herb or flower tea such as peppermint, camomile, rose hip or solidago (goldenrod is particularly good for eliminating excess water from the tissues if you tend to retain it)
Breakfast
Prepare a large glass of fresh fruit juice such as orange, grapefruit, apple, pear, or grape, diluted with enough spring water to make two glasses. Sip slowly until you’ve drunk both glasses.
Mid-morning
Another glass of diluted fresh juice if desired or a tisane.
Lunch
A large glass of fresh vegetable juice such as carrot, celery, tomato or cucumber, or a mixture of these, again diluted with half water to make two glasses and drink slowly.
Mid-afternoon
Another glass of freshly made fruit or vegetable juice, undiluted.
Dinner
A glass of freshly made fruit or vegetable juice, undiluted.
Before bed
If you are hungry, a few raisins, (not more than a dozen) chewed slowly and another tisane or glass of spring water if you prefer.
In other words, throughout the day you should drink between one and a half and three pints of juice, depending on how much you feel you want. It is best for half of the juices to be vegetable and half of them fruit, since the fruits are the natural cleansers of the system and the vegetables are the revitalizes.
Provided you are generally healthy and your doctor agrees, you can continue on this regimen for between three and five days, making sure all the while that you get plenty of rest and that you get out and walk in the fresh air for exercise.
When you come to break your fast and go back to normal eating, eat only raw food the first day and do not overeat. Be sure to favor raw vegetables and fruits the first three days after your Rohsäfte-Kur and eat no meat until the third day after breaking the juice regimen.
