Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin that is obtained through sun rays and diet or as a supplement . It is normally believed that it can only be obtained from the sun.
It is a fat soluble vitamin. Orally is absorbed with fats through the intestine walls. The sun produces some vitamin D with the oils of the skin and then this is absorbed through the body.
There has been a lot of concern to over exposure to the sun, well Vitamin D does not need long terms of sun, just a few minutes. One of the points to note is that smog in cities reduce the vitamin D producing rays.
What it does for you
- Properly utilizes calcium and phosphorus necessary for strong bones and teeth
- Taken with vitamins A and C aids to prevent colds
- Helps with treatment of conjunctivitis
- Aids absorption of Vitamin A
- Many studies in humans, but not all, suggest that higher intakes of vitamin D or higher levels of vitamin D in the blood are associated with a reduced risk of colon cancer.
- Whether vitamin D is associated with reduced risks of other cancers, including breast, prostate, and pancreatic cancers, remains unclear.
Diseases due to deficiency

This is so interesting.
My son drinks soy milk – not sure if it has Vitamin D – I will check but he gets tons of sunlight. We live in Florida and go out almost every day. Does he still need supplements?
Keep it Touched,

I don’t think so, I live in Torremolinos, Southern Spain and I never took supplements. Neither I did in England, where there is not so much of Sunshine/ sunlight, especially November to end of January but going to work etc seem to be enough. Thank you for commenting.

Ah yes, Vitamin D – just like magnesium, the awful health conditions that a lack of Vitamin D causes (or contributes to) are so disabling. Thank you for this lovely IMPORTANT reminder on a very grey, overcast day.

This is a nice reminder. I also live in Florida so I think I get my fair share of Vitamin D, but there are others who might forget about this.
