“Supplement ice water with your workouts because drinking a glass of ice water burns 25 calories versus 16 calories per glass of room temperature water”
Iced water and metabolism
There are many tricks and tips that assist with calorie burning and revving up the metabolism
Iced water is one of the easiest to implement, although in winter we might be against this!
Iced water or just water is good for you
In Germany, researchers found that drinking 6 cups of water (about 48 oz or 1.5 litres – I drink 2 litres) can burn up to 50 calories a day. That’s enough to shed 5 lbs in a year with any additional effort.
A study in the University of Utah that monitored the metabolic rates of 10 adults, drinking varying amounts of water. The study found that those that drank eight to twelve 8-ounce glasses of water had a higher metabolic rates than those that only drank four glasses.
If you don’t drink enough liquids your body might react by retaining liquids because of excess salt (sodium) in your system. Drink more water and the problem will be cured. Your body tends to retain water for the same reason it retains fat when you are constantly dieting, it thinks it needs to store to cope with the famine. Drink water regularly and your body will be trained to think it is plentiful and naturally, it will stop retaining water.
Water contains
- Calcium for strong bones and assistance to the immune system. Calcium also reduces body fat and helps them burn in the process
- Magnesium this is the reason why after a refreshing drink of water you feel good. This mineral is a stress reliever, plays an important role in carbohydrate (carbs) metabolism and also, assists the body in regulating blood sugar levels.
- Zinc – this mineral enhances and boosts the immune system braking down carbs and converts them to energy.
- Sodium – consuming recommended levels will assist you with cravings for junk foods.
- Iron – is a vital mineral as it distributes nutrients and minerals to the proper parts of the body. Your metabolism will function properly with iron.
Conclusion
Drinking water is the best, natural, and healthiest way in revving your metabolism. Make it a habit by adding a glass a day until you reach your optimum level. All of your body’s chemical reactions, including your metabolism, depend on water.

Liliana, while I agree that water is good for weight loss and helps with fluid retention, The calorie burning difference between cold and room temperature water is negligible. What is important is that we drink water, no matter what temperature.
Exactly, just drink water! Iced water is an icing on the cake (pun intended) 🙂
I agree that water is huge in daily fluid intake.
